Vertical Axis Wind Turbines – Kedco
homemadewindturbinesforthehome | Wind Turbines House3 Aug 2012
These turbines have blades that go from top to bottom. The blades are vertical but swivel around a vertical support. The turbines are made from galvanised steel and consist of a 3.6kw turbine with a tower and inverter. With these turbines, the wind turns the turbine and generates wild ac (alternating current) which is then converted to DC (direct current) and then into controlled AC synchronised with the house AC. These turbines have a height of 14m which is he maximum height allowed without planning (ROI).

I have read two books on the subject of wind power and numerous forum? postings from people actually involved in wind power in some capacity, and the overwhelming general consensus is VAWT (vertical axis wind turbines) are for people who don’t know any better or people who do know better trying to scam those who don’t know better.
Caveat emptor. Buyer beware.
This look? cool
Generally? payback is between 8-12 years, but with carbon taxes on the way and ESB rates inevitably increasing, this payback will
improve.
In addition 3 other countries in Europe are already giving a tariff back from their energy providers that is more than double the current ESB level so we need to get ours increased which will also improve payback.
The vertical turbine can operate more efficiently in wind that is
changing direction as it? uses wind from all directions without having to
turn to face the direction. It also has less loadings on the turbine at
higher wind speeds as the wings are closer to the centre of gravity and will
keep generating in gales.
Kedco have installations in Lismore Co Cork, Kenmare behind the Golf Club and one in Castlehaven West Cork.
There are others dotted around? Ireland also.
AWESOME great? video
What’s the main reason for using vertical axis over horizontal axis turbines?
payback take? long?
They look? pretty cool – Where was the video taken?
